I have always had an interest in mechanics, engineering, art and design - generally how things work. At 18 I chose to follow a career in graphic design and illustration, completing four years of full-time training at Wolverhampton University School of Art & Design.
After completing my degree I became a freelance illustrator and designer. I followed this path for 13 years before landing a job as as a senior graphic designer and medical illustrator in an NHS hospital trust. During my time as a medical illustrator I have been an active member of the Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI), serving time on IMI Council representing designers in the NHS and working as a Registered Medical Illustration Practitioner (RMIP).
Recently I have spent more time on personal art projects, this has given me the desire to create artwork of the subjects I love. I have developed a style and technique based on close observation of my subjects. By creating, clean, assured lines, but also retaining the subject’s sensitivity and emotion, MarksArt has universal appeal.
My training
I have a BA(Hons) in Visual Communication specialising in Graphic Design and Illustration from Wolverhampton School of Art & Design. I am a practicing member of the Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI) and a Registered Medical Illustration Practitioner (RMIP).
My approach
I start work in pencil to sketch out an illustration and then complete in traditional or digital media to bring my artwork to life.
My style
I would describe my style as painterly realistic. My aim is to achieve a realistic representation with that little extra that only a real artist can achieve. My versatility and creativeness are reflected in my illustrations, which exist in a world combining traditional drawing and painting with the latest digital art techniques.
I am always keen to get feed back on the work I produce. If you like the work on the site or have any questions you can get in touch with Mark using the email link at the top of the page.
